Elements of Phonetics

Students will apply the basic elements of phonetics.

Production and Transcription of English Vowels

Students will apply clinical phonetic skills and knowledge to the production and transcription of vowel sounds in American English.

Production and Transcription of English Consonants

Students will apply clinical phonetic skills and knowledge to the production and transcription of consonant sounds in American English.

Production and Transcription of Suprasegmental Aspects

Students will apply clinical phonetic skills and knowledge to the production and transcription of the suprasegmental aspects of speech.

Transcription of Disordered Speech and Dialects

Students will apply clinical phonetic skills and knowledge to the transcription of disordered speech and dialect variation.

Accommodations for Diversity and Disability

Students will adapt their use of clinical phonetics to accommodate for culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) populations of varying ages and differing levels of disability.
