Course Outcomes

Historical Knowledge

Students will become familiar with the major political, social, cultural, and economic aspects of pre-revolutionary Russia. They will also explore and analyze such concepts as autocracy, Westernization, and empire.

Historical Analysis

Students will develop the ability to pose historical questions and answer those questions through a variety of analytical lenses. They will also learn how to establish connections between events, movements, and ideas for the time period covered in the course and to apply their knowledge of history to the world around them.

Effective Historical Research

Students will improve their analytical skills by finding and interrogating various primary and secondary sources and placing them within broad historical narratives.

Effective Communication

Students will learn how to craft plausible historical arguments and convey their arguments and evidence through a clear and succinct writing style.
