Elementary Music Content
Students will articulate what should be taught in elementary music for grades K-5 including music skills, elements, and concepts.
Elementary Music Instruction
Students will develop standards-based lesson plans and demonstrate sequenced developmental teaching of musical elements for grades K-5 using a variety of methods and delivery techniques.
Assessment
Students will select, utilize, and assess methods of evaluation in elementary general music.
Practicum Experience
Students will observe and teach in the BYU Young Musicians Academy, local children's choirs, and elementary music classrooms.
Children's Choir
Students will demonstrate the ability to guide children's musicianship through choral experiences by selecting and analyzing repertoire, creating a choral concert program, gathering choral resources, and planning and executing choral rehearsals.
Professional Development
Students will explore and research special topics in music education such as multicultural music education, general music instruments and ensembles, and nurturing creativity.
