Students will be able to discuss animation (film, television, Internet) as a microcosm of the larger aesthetic and social developments of popular culture artifacts.
Historical Contexts
Students will be able to examine the relationship of text, subtext, and context in animated fare, as well as understand how animation has influenced and is influenced by art, society, history, and technology.
Genre
Students will be able to analyze the significance of generic conventions and themes in animation, both diachronically and synchronically.
Secondary Literature
Students will be able to identify and appraise scholarly material related to animation studies.
