By approaching the text of Homer's Odyssey, successful students will learn techniques of reading Greek Epic poetry with subtlety and precision.

Critical Method

Successful students will understand and apply principles and practice of critical method with specific reference to the texts of Homer.

Literary History

Successful students will understand the place of Homeric epic in literary history of Classical antiquity and locate Homeric epic poetry in the larger context of political and cultural history.

Close Reading
