Course Outcomes

Linguistic Knowledge of Border Spanish

Students will demonstrate a knowledge of principal features of (Mexican-American) Popular Spanish in terms of semantics, morphosyntax, and phonetics/phonology.

Theoretical constructs

Students will understand and be able to describe succinctly S-E bilingual contact phenomena, such as borrowing, code-switching, and language maintenance/shift.

Cultural Awareness

Students will gain a greater understanding of and appreciation for Mexicans and Mexican-Americans living in the U.S.
