Students will receive training and experience in excavation at a BYU-sponsored dig

Course Objectives

-This course is designed to provide students with an intensive exposure to archaeological field methods in the context of an ongoing research project.

-Students will receive both training and experience in field methods. The course involves working a full schedule five days a week, spending approximately 8 hours a day working in the field. Students will also take turns one day a week doing lab work.

-Students will learn field methods including excavation, mapping, note taking, survey, reading topographic maps, and photography.

-There also will be reading and writing assignments to be completed including a personal field journal that will be graded on a regular basis.
