Course Outcomes

1. The emergence of language

Students will demonstrate knowledge of early communicative behaviors and the emergence of language.

Measurement: Multiple choice tests, short essays.

2. Phonology, semantics, grammar, and pragmatics

Students will demonstrate knowledge of the components of language – specifically phonology, semantics, grammar, and pragmatics.

3. Language development

Students will show knowledge of how language continues to develop in school age children as well as adulthood.

4. Language disorders

Students will have a basic knowledge of various language disorders.

5. Neurological components of language

Students will be able to describe the basic neurological components of language – including the effects of strokes and dementia on language and speech.
