Capstone essay culminates undergraduate experience in posing, researching, and writing in consultation with an advisor. Oral exam tests familiarity with a standardized reading list of classical texts. Attendance at weekly lectures expands familiarity with broad questions in classical scholarship.

Course Outcomes

The Capstone Paper

Successful students will complete research on and write a capstone paper under the guidance of their chosen member of the Classics faculty. By writing this capstone paper, students will demonstrate 1) the ability to write analytical papers or the equivalent that apply close readings to Latin and Greek literary texts to develop and clearly express original interpretations of these texts nd 2) a broad knowledge and comprehension of the history, literature, philosophy, and visual arts of Greece and Rome.
