Through the exploration of films that present Greek and Roman narratives - historical, mythological, contextual - successful students will develop a greater understanding of adaptations of Classical culture, literature, and politics.
Classical Tradition in Cinema
Successful students will learn how Classical texts have persistently formed the basis of narrative adaptation throughout the history of cinema, in overt and sometimes surprisingly covert ways.
Evaluating Cinematic Texts
Through assigned readings, screenings and individual viewing of films, classroom discussion and written papers, successful students will develop their ability to evaluate cinematic texts critically and intelligently.
