Course Outcomes

Outcome 1: Introduction to Linux and Programming

Students will learn the basics of the Linux operating system and feel comfortable working in a command line terminal. Additionally, students will be introduced to the Python programming language and write simple scripts to manipulate DNA sequence data.

Outcome 2: Survey of the Field of Bioinformatics

Students will gain an understanding of the field of bioinformatics, including career options in bioinformatics, how bioinformatics facilitates discovery in a variety of research areas, an overview to commonly used databases, and an overview of file formats frequently used in bioinformatics.
