Course Outcomes
Vocabulary
Students will apply correct vocabulary for describing plant parts and be able to deduce the meaning of new terms based on knowledge of common roots, prefixes, and suffixes.
Groups of Plants
Students will recognize the major groups of vascular plants, be able to differentiate them by their principal characters, and understand their phylogenetic relationships.
Identify by Sight
Students will identify by sight 40 families of flower plants as well as common families of ferns and gymnosperms, by recognizing differentiating features of each family.
Identifying Unknown Plants
Students will gain proficiency in the use of keys and identification manuals for identifying any unknown plant to species.
