Course Outcomes

Explore military professional ethics and decision making

Outcome 1 – Values and Ethics

Explore military professional ethics and ethical decision making facing an Officer in peacetime and wartime

Case studies of wartime scenarios from history with classroom discussion.

Students complete monthly professional readings – at least one during the year detailing ethical decision making and dilemmas on the battlefield for leaders

CDTs understand the complexities of military professional ethics when applied to peacetime and wartime and learn they must use wisdom when making decisions. Demonstrated through discussion and paper.

Include a challenging ethical decision making scenario on the final exam that the cadets must describe what they would do if found in the same situation.

Gain practical experience in cadet battalion leadership role

Leadership Labs and FTX

General understanding is good – however cadets need to learn to plan further in advance and use all 8 steps of the process to include MDMP

Refined weekly cadet training meeting format will facilitate understanding accountability for training and facilitate planning further into advance

Expand and demonstrate skills as a member of an organizational staff

MDMP is complicated and challenging for the cadets to understand. Greater focus needs to be shifted to staff roles and understanding of military staff integration

Will assign cadets to study a specific staff function and how it integrates into the greater military method.

Application to Leadership Lab PEs and FTX

Basic understanding is mastered – need continued examples in PEs
